Minorities and Catch 22

Majorities have a few standard grievances against minority groups…

 

They don’t conform,

They don’t pay their taxes,

They’re criminals,

amongst others.

 

Of course they don’t conform. They have a different culture.

Sure, everyone should pay their taxes. We’re happy to pay if we feel we have a stake in society. We expect we’ll get something in return for our taxes. If you and your community are widely discriminated against, you may feel less inclined to chip in.

Some crimes get followed up more than others. Generations of exclusion may leave few opportunities in the formal economy.
